The Effect of Achilles Tendon Stretching on Weightbearing
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Introduction The gastrocsoleus complex via the Achilles tendon exerts a plantar flexion moment on the foot and ankle. The manifestation of this moment on the forefoot during gait is that of plantar pressure. Stretching is routinely recommended by physicians to provide relief of forefoot pain, heel pain and plantar fasciitis, as well as being advised prior to sporting activities to minimize injury potential. However, the effect of Achilles stretching on weight bearing has not been studied. Therefore, the following hypotheses are examined for normal subjects; 1) Achilles stretching exercises will, shortly after stretching, result in no increase in passive dorsiflexion of the ankle, and 2) Achilles stretching exercises will, shortly after stretching, result in no change in either the spatial or temporal plantar pressure distribution during gait. This is accomplished by documenting the dorsiflexion range of motion and plantar pressures during gait both prior to and directly after Achilles stretching exercises.

Influence of stretching and warm-up on Achilles tendon material properties.
BACKGROUND Controversy exists on stretching and warm-up in injury prevention. We hypothesized that warm up has a greater effect on Achilles tendon biomechanics than static stretching. This study investigated static stretching and warm-up on Achilles tendon biomechanics in recreational athletes, in vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten active, healthy subjects, 5 males, 5 females, With a mean age of...

AIMS This study was undertaken to investigate the immediate effect of static stretching on normal Achilles tendon morphology and stiffness, and the different effect on dominant and non-dominant legs; and to evaluate inter-operator and intra-operator reliability of using shear-wave elastography in measuring Achilles tendon stiffness. METHODS 20 healthy subjects (13 males, 7 females) were inclu...

The aim of this study was to the effect of aquatic activity and alogenic bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells fortified with Platelet-Rich Plasma in treatment of Achilles tendon in rat. 74 Sprague-Dawley rats were selected and tendon injury was formed in 69 of them. Subsequently, these rats were randomly divided into 8 groups and 5 rats which were without any injuries were chosen as the ...
متن کاملStretching and Warm-up: Are They Important for Achilles Tendon Injury Reduction?
INTRODUCTION Achilles tendon rupture is among the most frequent musculoskeletal injury, with over 1 million cases annualy in the United States alone [1]. Calf stretches and warm-up are routinely used by professional and recreational athletes as an injury prevention measure. Both londitudinal stretch training studies and accute calf stretching have shown to decrease tendon stiffness [2,3], repre...

BACKGROUND Clinical tendon injuries represent serious and unresolved issues of the case on how the injured tendons could be improved based on natural structure and mechanical strength. The aim of this studies the effect of aquatic activities and alogenic platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection in healing Achilles tendons of rats. METHODS Forty rats were randomly divided into 5 equal groups. Se...
